Key takeaways
- Business Profile Performance reports interactions, such as call-button taps and directions requests.
- Those interactions do not prove a connected call, store visit or sale.
- Report Profile metrics, Search Console clicks and confirmed leads in separate columns with matching dates.
Google Business Profile Performance is useful for seeing how people interact with your listing, but its numbers need careful labels. A call metric represents a tap on the call button, for example. It does not tell you whether someone answered or whether the caller became a customer.
This guide gives a reporting template for a local business in Nepal and the checks that prevent inflated results. For setup and eligibility, see the Business Profile guide.
Open the Performance view and record the scope
Sign in to the account that manages the verified Business Profile. Search for your business on Google or open the profile management interface and choose Performance. Google changes interface labels from time to time, so look for the current Performance entry rather than relying on an old screenshot.
Record the profile name, location, date range and which metrics are available. Multi-location businesses should report each location separately before making a total. If the profile is not verified or access is limited, resolve that first. Google's Performance help page explains the metrics and how to access them.
Interpret calls, directions and website clicks
| Metric | What it indicates | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Calls | People tapped the call button on your profile | A connected call, qualified lead or booking |
| Directions | People requested directions to your location | They arrived or purchased |
| Website clicks | People clicked the website link on the profile | They stayed, enquired or paid |
Website clicks in Business Profile can differ from sessions in GA4 and clicks in Search Console because they use different collection methods, scopes and definitions. Do not add them together as if they were unique people. A profile's message, booking or other metrics may appear only when the relevant feature is available and configured.
Use a monthly report that keeps stages apart
Copy the following columns into a spreadsheet: month, profile location, calls, direction requests, website clicks, confirmed phone enquiries, web-form enquiries, bookings or sales, notes. Add a source and date range to every row. For a web-form enquiry, use your own form or CRM record; for a phone enquiry, ask the receptionist or sales team to log it. The Profile columns show interaction volume, while the business columns show outcomes.
Illustrative row: “September | Pokhara office | 42 call taps | 25 direction requests | 61 website clicks | 17 confirmed phone enquiries | 8 forms | 5 bookings.” These numbers are only an example of the layout; they are not performance claims for this website or a client. A high call-tap count with few confirmed conversations may point to missed calls, incorrect opening hours or measurement gaps.
Review changes without overclaiming causation
Compare complete months or equivalent date ranges, and annotate material changes such as holiday closures, new hours, a category change or a website redesign. Check the location's profile completeness and accuracy if interactions fall, but do not assume an edit caused every movement. Seasonality and search demand also change.
Use Search Console for organic search queries and pages, GA4 for on-site behaviour, and your booking or sales records for customer outcomes. These sources answer different questions. A useful local SEO report states what each number means and what action follows, rather than presenting all taps as leads.
A practical review routine for local teams
Once a week, check the listing for incorrect hours, a changed phone number or a broken website button. Those issues affect customers directly and can also change the meaning of your Performance data. Once a month, export or record the same date range for each location, add confirmed enquiries from business records, and write a one-sentence observation. For example, “Call-button taps rose while answered calls stayed flat; we will review missed-call coverage.”
Do not turn the report into a league table of call taps. A clinic may receive fewer direction requests because patients already know the route; a service-area business may rely more on calls. Report against the customer's actual journey. If you changed the primary category, phone number or opening hours, annotate the date and compare later periods before drawing a conclusion.
