Key takeaways
- Most workshop customers search with their phone and pick from the Google Maps results, so a complete, verified Google Business Profile with honest categories and real photos comes first.
- Nepal's roads are mostly two-wheelers: 4,744,072 motorcycles against 366,723 cars, jeeps and taxis registered by the end of FY 2024/25. Bike servicing deserves its own page, not a line in a list.
- EVs made up about 69% of car, jeep and van imports in FY 2025/26. If you can service them, say so clearly on your website and profile.
- Give every main service its own page with price ranges, turnaround time and a call or WhatsApp button, then ask every customer for a review when they collect their vehicle.
To get an auto repair workshop in Nepal found on Google, verify your Google Business Profile with the right categories and real photos, build a separate page for each main service (bike servicing, car servicing, denting and painting, EV repair), make calling or messaging you one tap away, and collect reviews from every customer. Add consistent listings and LocalBusiness schema, and you will cover what most workshops in your area are missing.
Workshop customers rarely browse. Someone with a puncture, a warning light or a bike due for servicing searches "bike servicing near me" or "car mechanic in Lalitpur", looks at three or four workshops on the map, and calls one. Your job is to be in that shortlist and to look like the safe choice.

What Nepal's vehicle numbers mean for your workshop
Department of Transport Management records, reported by Republica, show 4,744,072 motorcycles registered in Nepal by the end of FY 2024/25, compared with 366,723 cars, jeeps and taxis. That's roughly 13 motorcycles for every four-wheeler. In the same year, 196,211 more motorbikes were registered.
The car market is changing too. Department of Customs data, reported by Himal Press, shows 10,847 electric vehicles imported in FY 2025/26 against 4,959 petrol and diesel cars, jeeps and vans. Electric models were about 69% of those imports.
| Fact | What to do |
|---|---|
| Motorcycles far outnumber cars | Give two-wheeler servicing its own page and Google Business Profile service, with prices for common jobs. |
| Most new cars imported are electric | If your mechanics are trained and equipped for EVs, create an EV service page. If not, don't claim it. |
| Most searches happen on phones | Put your phone number, WhatsApp and map link at the top of every page. The mobile SEO guide covers the rest. |
Google Business Profile for workshops
Your Google Business Profile is your most important listing. Google ranks local results mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and a complete profile helps with the first and last of those.
Choose honest, specific categories
Google's guidelines say to "choose the fewest number of categories it takes to describe your overall core business," and to pick categories that complete the sentence "this business is a…". For workshops, that usually means one main category such as Auto repair shop or Motorcycle repair shop, plus a few that are genuinely true, such as Auto body shop, Tire shop or Car wash. Don't add Car dealer unless you actually sell cars.
Use your real business name
Google requires your profile name to match your real-world name, signboard included. "Ram Auto Workshop" is fine. "Ram Auto Workshop – Best Bike Servicing Kathmandu" breaks the guidelines and can get your profile suspended. Put the services and location in your categories, services list and description instead.
Storefront or mobile mechanic?
If customers bring vehicles to your workshop, show your address and drop the map pin exactly on your gate. Customers use it to find you down a narrow gali. If you only do roadside or home-visit repairs, Google's rules say a service-area business should hide its address and set a service area instead. A workshop that also does pickups can show its address and set a service area.
Complete the rest
- Services: list each one (bike servicing, car servicing, denting and painting, engine work, wheel alignment, battery replacement, AC repair, EV servicing) with a short description and a starting price if you can keep to it.
- Hours: say clearly whether you open on Saturday and public holidays, and update hours before Dashain and Tihar.
- Photos: your signboard, the entrance, the service bays, your team at work and finished jobs. Real photos beat stock images every time.
- Phone and WhatsApp: use the number that someone actually answers during working hours.
Service pages that bring jobs
A single "Services" page with twelve bullet points rarely ranks for anything. Give each main service its own page so it can match a specific search. Each page should answer the questions a customer would ask on the phone:
- What the service includes, for example oil change, filter, chain cleaning and brake check for a bike service.
- A price range in NPR and what changes it, such as engine size, parts or paint area.
- How long it takes, and whether customers can wait or need to leave the vehicle.
- Which makes you work on, and whether you use genuine or compatible parts.
- Photos of real jobs, with permission if the vehicle is identifiable.
- A call button, a WhatsApp button and a map link.
| Page | Searches it can match |
|---|---|
| Bike and scooter servicing | bike servicing near me, scooter service Kathmandu, motorcycle repair Pokhara |
| Car servicing | car service centre near me, car servicing cost Nepal |
| Denting and painting | car denting painting Kathmandu, bike paint job |
| EV servicing (only if you do it) | EV service centre Kathmandu, electric car repair |
| Battery, tyres and wheel alignment | car battery replacement, wheel alignment near me |
| Insurance claim repairs (only if insurers accept your bills) | accident repair Kathmandu, insurance claim garage |
These are examples of how people phrase searches, not measured search volumes. Check your own Search Console data once the pages are live; the Search Console guide shows how.
Keywords: services, places, brands and problems
Workshop searches usually combine four things. Cover them naturally in your page titles, headings and text:
- Service: servicing, denting painting, engine overhaul, clutch plate change.
- Place: your area and nearby areas, for example Koteshwor, Balkumari or Kalanki. Only name places you actually serve.
- Brand and model: "Pulsar servicing", "Hyundai service". If you're an independent workshop, say so; don't imply you're an authorised service centre.
- Problem: "bike not starting", "car AC not cooling", "brake noise". A short page or post explaining causes and costs can bring in customers before they know which service they need.
Write in the language your customers use. Many search in English with Nepali words, and some in Nepali script. The bilingual SEO guide explains how to cover both without duplicate pages.
Make calling and booking easy
Most workshop customers want to talk to someone. Put a tap-to-call link (tel:+977…) and a WhatsApp button at the top of every page and keep them visible on mobile. A short booking form for servicing slots helps customers who search after working hours.
Track these actions so you know which pages bring jobs. The guide to tracking WhatsApp leads in GA4 covers WhatsApp and phone clicks, and your Business Profile's performance report shows calls and direction requests from Google.
Reviews: the deciding factor
Customers choosing between three workshops on the map read reviews to answer one question: will they treat me fairly? Ask every customer when they collect their vehicle, while they're happy. A small QR code at the counter linking to your review form makes it a ten-second job. Reply to every review, and answer complaints calmly with what you did to fix the problem.
Don't offer discounts or free services for reviews, and never post reviews yourself. Google's policies don't allow incentivised or fake reviews, and they can be removed. The Google review request guide has message templates you can send on WhatsApp.
Listings and schema markup
Keep your name, address and phone identical on your Facebook page, map apps and a few maintained directories. The checked list of Nepal business listing sites shows which still work.
On your website, add LocalBusiness schema using the most specific type: AutoRepair for car workshops or MotorcycleRepair for bike workshops. Here's a minimal example to adapt:
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "AutoRepair",
"name": "Example Auto Workshop",
"url": "https://example.com.np/",
"telephone": "+977-1-4XXXXXX",
"address": {
"@type": "PostalAddress",
"streetAddress": "Ring Road, Balkumari",
"addressLocality": "Lalitpur",
"addressCountry": "NP"
},
"openingHours": "Su-Fr 09:00-18:00"
}
Make sure every detail matches what's visible on the page and your Business Profile. The schema markup guide explains how to test it.
An example from my work
I built the website for Khukuri Auto Repairs, a workshop in Lidcombe, Sydney, Australia: a service-business site with lead capture. The market is different, but the structure applies to any workshop in Nepal. Services are easy to scan, contact options are always within reach and the site is built to be read correctly by search engines. I also ran Meta ad campaigns for Tripathi Auto Motors, an automotive business. Ads and SEO do different jobs: ads bring enquiries quickly while you build the reviews and pages that keep working. The SEO vs PPC comparison explains when each makes sense.
I'm not publishing traffic or enquiry figures for these clients here. You can see the projects in my web development portfolio.
A 30-day plan
- Week 1: claim or verify your Business Profile, fix the name, categories, hours and map pin, and add 15–20 real photos.
- Week 2: list every service in your profile, then write pages for your two most profitable services with prices and photos.
- Week 3: add call and WhatsApp buttons, a booking form and tracking. Add AutoRepair or MotorcycleRepair schema.
- Week 4: start asking every customer for a review, update your Facebook page and two or three directories, and add the next service page.
After that, add one service or problem page a month and keep reviews coming in. Steady work like this tends to beat a profile that was set up once and forgotten.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take for a workshop to show up on Google Maps?
A newly verified profile can appear within days for searches that include your business name. Ranking for broader searches such as "bike servicing near me" usually takes weeks to months and depends on your distance from the searcher, your reviews and how complete your profile is.
Can a mobile mechanic rank without a workshop address?
Yes. Set up your Business Profile as a service-area business, hide your address and list the areas you serve. You won't show for every search in a wide area, but you can appear for searches near where you work.
Should I add keywords like "best bike service" to my business name?
No. Google requires your profile name to match your real-world business name. Adding keywords can get your profile suspended. Use categories, services and your description to show what you do.
Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?
You can get calls from a profile alone, but a website lets you rank for specific services, explain prices and build trust. A simple, fast site with a page for each main service is enough for most workshops.
